Speaking

Kirk's
biography

Kirk Baumgartner
speaker, storyteller, and joy enthusiast.
Kirk Baumgartner is a suicide prevention speaker for youth who is passionate about helping teens and young adults discover hope, purpose, and resilience. As the oldest of eleven children, a father of three, and a grandfather of seven, Kirk knows firsthand the power of family, connection, and community support in overcoming life’s darkest moments.
For many years, Kirk carried a quiet emptiness—feeling as if he was just waiting to die. That changed when a friend invited him to a training that opened his eyes to a deeper truth: that life is meant to be lived with authentic connection—to yourself, to others, and to God.
Now, Kirk shares that life-changing message in schools, youth conferences, and community organizations across the country. As a mental health and suicide prevention advocate, he blends humor, powerful personal stories, and practical strategies to help audiences build resilience, find meaning, and break the silence around mental health struggles. His approach resonates deeply with teens, educators, parents, and leaders seeking tools for youth suicide awareness and prevention.
And what’s the story behind the red wig? Kirk explains it fully in his keynote, but simply put—he loves to bring joy and laughter into people’s lives. Somehow, the red wig does just that, reminding audiences that even in serious conversations about mental health, there is always room for hope and light.
When he’s not speaking, Kirk can be found on his bicycle—whether racing up steep hills or riding just for fun. His philosophy is simple:
If his words and experiences help even one person choose life, find courage, and move forward with purpose, then his mission has been a success.
